On Saturday, the national grid collapsed again, causing a widespread power outage in Nigeria.
Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, said this in a notice on Saturday.
According to the alert, the National Grid Collapse occurred around 15:09 hours on Saturday.
As a result, bulk electricity supply from the Transmission Company of Nigeria National Control Centre has been disrupted.
According to EEDC, the scenario is causing power outages across the Southeast states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo.
“This has resulted in the current network-wide supply outage.
“Due to this event, all of our interface TCN stations are out of stock, and we are unable to serve our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.
“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo,” according to the notification.
The development comes only days after TCN reported that electricity generation would peak at 4,723.30 megawatts on July 4, 2024, down from 4800mw in May.
Nigeria has already seen at least three system failures in 2024. TCN reports that the system has collapsed approximately 227 times in the last 14 years.
This comes in the wake of the April 3 and July 1 2024 electricity pricing increases for Band A consumers, who are expected to have 20-24 hours of power supply.
Band A’s electricity cost increased from N66 to N206.80 per kilowatt-hour.
