Kano Governor Invites Chinese Investors, Promises Conducive Business Environment

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has welcomed Chinese investors, emphasizing Kano’s potential as a prime location for international business.

Speaking during a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dunhai Yu, at the Government House in Kano on Thursday, Governor Yusuf described Kano as a significant economic hub ripe for investment.

“Kano is a historic commercial center in sub-Saharan Africa and an industrial hub with a conducive business environment for Chinese investors. The state offers significant economic advantages, including access to raw materials, a strategic location, and large markets,” Yusuf stated.

Acknowledging China’s prominent role in global economics, Governor Yusuf remarked, “The bilateral trade between China and Nigeria reached over $22.6 billion in 2023, and Kano has benefited greatly from this relationship. Chinese companies have played a major role in infrastructural development within the state.”

Highlighting Chinese contributions, the governor noted that about 55 percent of infrastructural projects in Kano were executed by Chinese companies, mentioning specifically, “We have attractive incentives that will not only attract but also retain investments in Kano State.”

Governor Yusuf also stressed educational collaboration, calling for expanded Chinese scholarship opportunities for Kano students to foster stronger relations and improved communication.

In response, Ambassador Yu praised Kano as an essential economic and cultural center, saying, “Kano is home to many Chinese investors and entrepreneurs, and they all feel welcome here. The relationship between China and Kano is built on mutual respect and beneficial cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, manufacturing, and education.”

The ambassador expressed China’s eagerness to strengthen partnerships, especially in agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, and electric vehicle production. “China leads the world in electric vehicles and renewable energy, and we are ready to collaborate with Kano to advance its industrialization efforts,” Yu added.
