Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has instructed all political appointees to make their assets declaration to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for legal compliance purposes and to avert potential sanctions.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor’s press secretary, conveyed the instruction in a statement released on Thursday.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf made the instruction during an Iftar session with government agency heads and Special Advisers at the Government House, Kano.
“The management of the Code of Conduct Bureau in Kano has informed me that 60 to 70 percent of state appointees have not yet registered with the agency. They have appealed to me to instruct you to comply in order to avoid the legal consequences of non-declaration, as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution,” Governor Yusuf stated.
He called on all the interested officials to assemble, complete, and submit the corresponding asset declaration forms as soon as possible in order to maintain governance transparency and accountability.
At the ceremony, the Governor was dismayed by several Special Advisers who had not produced any official recommendations since assuming office.
“It is preferable for an adviser to send me dozens of memos rather than remain silent for over a year without offering any counsel on governance matters,” he remarked.
Governor Yusuf underscored the importance of appointees closely monitoring government actions within their portfolios and submitting monthly reports, positive or otherwise, for the purpose of effective governance.
