Temporary workers of the Kano State Water Board staged a protest at the Kano State House of Assembly on Monday, demanding their confirmation as permanent staff after serving for more than 15 years without formal employment status.
Led by Comrade Najib Abdulsalam, Chairman of the Joint Union of Kano Government Workers at the Water Board, the protesters submitted a petition to the Assembly outlining their grievances and lamenting what they described as years of neglect by successive administrations despite their long-term service.
Comrade Abdulsalam noted that many of the affected workers have endured significant hardship while waiting for their appointments to be formalized, stressing that their prolonged status as temporary employees is both discouraging and unfair.
Receiving the petition, Tahir Haruna Musa Hungu, Chairman of the House Committee on Water Resources, assured the workers that the legislature would take steps to address their concerns and work toward a lasting solution.
