Kano State Water Board employees suspended their strike, commenced on February 26, 2025, against the failure to implement the new minimum wage.
Comrade Najib Abdulsalam, Water Board Workers’ Union, Chairman of the Kano State Chapter, affirm to VOA Hausa.
He added that the strike was suspended after consultations with stakeholders.
“We held discussions with the Kano State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, the state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, two permanent secretaries, and two advisers appointed by the governor to liaise with the workers,” Comrade Najib explained.
It should be noted that the union also conducted a strike on February 26, 2025, after the state government’s reluctance to engage them in the new minimum wage system, which seems to have remained unpaid to Kano workers for nearly four months.
Following the suspension of the strike, Comrade Najib directed all Kano State Water Board workers to resume their duties on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
