The Kebbi State Government has announced the immediate shutdown of all state-owned tertiary institutions, with the exception of the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, due to rising security concerns in the state.
The directive was issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Tunga, in Birnin Kebbi.
Tunga explained that the decision followed recent “cases of insecurity” affecting multiple parts of Kebbi State.
He listed the affected institutions to include the State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; and the College of Education, Argungu.
He emphasised that the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery, Birnin Kebbi, remains the only institution exempted from the closure.
The commissioner urged all management teams of the affected institutions to ensure full compliance with the government’s directive.
He also called for calm among students and staff, assuring them that further information would be communicated in due course.
“They should remain calm as the new resumption date will be communicated to them at the appropriate time,” he noted.
The announcement was issued under the signature of Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor.
