In a recent development in Kebbi State, an educator named Abduljalal Usman has been handed a three-month suspension following his public critique of the Ramadan aid provided by the local administration.
Usman, a civil servant in the state’s education sector, uploaded a clip to his Facebook profile this past Wednesday to voice his frustration over the food rations allocated to teachers for the holy month.
Speaking in Hausa during the recording, he pointed out that the provisions from Governor Nasir Idris amounted to just a single local measure of rice and millet.
“As a school teacher, this is what His Excellency has given me in the name of support,” he remarked while showing the small portions to the camera.
The footage quickly gained traction across various social platforms, as Usman argued that such a small contribution did not reflect the hard work put in by the teaching staff.
Just forty-eight hours after the video went live, Usman informed the public that he had been officially relieved of his duties for the next three months.
He expressed his conviction that the disciplinary measure was a direct retaliation for his online comments regarding the state’s palliative program.
A formal notice from the Dandi Local Government Education Authority stated that the teacher’s suspension was a result of claims involving professional lapses and failure to meet work obligations, during which time he will receive no pay.
“For negligence and defaulting in duty, the authority is hereby suspending you from duty for a period of three months,” the document stated.
The directive originated from the Education Secretary’s office within the Dandi Local Government Area.
When reached for comment, representatives from the Kebbi State Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education claimed to have no prior knowledge of the situation, leaving the matter without a higher-level confirmation.
