The Kwara State Government has officially revoked all 2024 signage and billboard licenses across the state, with immediate effect.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Chairman of the Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages, who also serves as the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, confirmed this development.
According to the statement, the decision was taken to ensure the removal of unauthorized and improperly erected billboards, posters, and light pole banners across Ilorin and other urban areas in the state.
This move is in line with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s Urban Renewal Programme, which aims to enhance the state’s aesthetic appeal and modernization efforts.
Furthermore, the government has announced that no new registrations or renewals of signages and billboard licenses will be processed until further notice.
“This temporary measure will allow the state to finalize a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising,” the statement added.
The statement also warned that the identification and removal of non-compliant billboards are already in progress, urging owners of unapproved structures to take them down immediately before enforcement kicks off next week.
For businesses and advertisers, compliance with this directive is crucial to avoid penalties or forced removal by government agencies.
