The Lagos State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation into a blast that occurred on Friday evening at a CCTV equipment shop located on Kodesho Street, near the bustling Computer Village in Ikeja.
According to a late-night statement from the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the explosion took place at approximately 6:35 pm.
In immediate response, officers from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and conventional police units secured the scene to prevent further harm and ensure public safety.
“The scene of the explosion and adjoining areas were immediately taken over and cordoned off by operatives of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Command, the Mobile Police Detachment and Conventional Lagos State Police Command Police Teams.
“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” the statement read.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh reportedly visited the area shortly after the incident for an on-site evaluation.
He urged the public to stay calm, assuring that the vicinity had been rendered secure and that residents could resume their normal routines without concern.
The police further confirmed that five individuals who were inside or near the shop during the explosion sustained varying injuries. All were promptly taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for medical care.
“The Command hereby wishes to assure the general public of its Lagos State Police Command commitment to continue to maintain peace and security throughout the state,” Hundeyin added.
