The Lagos State Police Command has successfully secured the release of two residents who were abducted from the Ijede Creek Side settlement in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The victims were rescued unharmed following a coordinated operation that prioritized their safety above all else.
The abduction occurred two days ago, with a distress call received at approximately 2200hrs by officers at the Ijede Police Division. The report indicated the sound of gunfire in the Igbe Creek Side settlement.
Responding swiftly, the Command mobilized a joint team comprising over fifteen tactical police squads, detectives, conventional officers, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members to the location.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the two victims, both residents of the creekside community, had been attacked and abducted by unidentified assailants who escaped through the surrounding creek and forest.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Owohunwa Jimoh, an extensive search and rescue operation was immediately launched. Tactical teams and intervention units, supported by local security volunteers, were strategically deployed to cut off all escape routes in and out of the area. This coordinated effort led to the successful release of the captives at about 2200hrs on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
The victims have since been reunited with their families. Meanwhile, security forces—including police tactical teams, detectives, and local collaborators—continue to comb the area’s creeks and forests in pursuit of the perpetrators, with the objective of preventing further attacks and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
The Lagos State Police Command commends the bravery and professionalism of all officers involved, as well as the unwavering support of the local vigilantes, hunters, and residents who contributed to the success of the rescue despite the operational difficulties posed by the terrain.
The Command reiterates its commitment to safeguarding all communities across Lagos, including those in hard-to-reach areas such as Ijede Creek.
Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Ijede Police Division, the tactical squads stationed in the area, the nearest police station, or via the Command’s emergency lines: 08063299264 or 08065154338.
