The Lagos State Government has announced that the 68-kilometre Green Line rail project, running from Marina to the Lekki Free Zone, will be completed in its entirety and not in phases.
This was revealed by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, during a scoping workshop held on Wednesday. The event marked the launch of the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Resettlement Policy Framework for the project.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, also confirmed the update in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) page, revealing that the full alignment of the rail route has been unveiled.
“The Honorable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, informed that the government planned to complete the entire project rather than in phases,” the statement read.
This strategy differs from previous rail projects in Lagos, such as the Blue Line and Red Line, which were built in phases, with operations beginning after completing Phase 1.
During the workshop, LAMATA explained key elements of the ESIA process and shared the 68km Green Line alignment, though exact route details remain undisclosed.
Olumide urged affected property owners to regularize their building approvals, cautioning that failure may lead to penalties.
