Myanmar-Thailand Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 1,000

The death toll from the devastating earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand has now surpassed 1,000.

Rescue teams continue to urgently search through debris and collapsed structures, hoping to find additional survivors.

Myanmar’s military government reported on Saturday that at least “1,002 people were killed and almost 2,376 injured” in the Mandalay region.

Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, lies near the earthquake’s epicenter, according to Al Jazeera.

The powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar and parts of Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday.

Experts described the quake as shallow, occurring at a depth of just 10km, indicating potentially extensive damage.

Numerous buildings, bridges, roads, and other infrastructure were significantly damaged or destroyed.
