NAF Airstrikes Devastate Terrorist Hideouts in Mandara Mountains

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) reported that a terrorist hideouts airstrike struck around Chikide and Degbewa on March 16, 2025.

In a statement made available by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Nigerian Air Force Headquarters Deputy Director Public Relations and Information, the nighttime operation flattened insurgent hideouts deep inside the treacherous Mandara Mountains, dealing a crushing blow to the terrorists’ enclave and disrupting their operations.

He added that based on credible Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) reports, information showed that wanted terrorist commander Ali Ngulde and his fighters had planned a high-level face-off at the site.

ISR activities over the site verified presence of terrorists at a critical rallying point in Degbewa, and also of heavily fortified structures with solar-powered devices, indicating an operational command post, he added.

In retaliation to this intelligence, the NAF launched a night surgical attack in the dark, achieving complete surprise.

The coordinated firepower completely obliterated the terrorists’ command and logistics center, causing massive fires that consumed various facilities and killed scores of militants in their hideouts, he said.

“This operation against Boko Haram enclaves across the theatre significantly degraded their fighting capability while creating favourable conditions for ground troops to advance and dominate the battlespace.

“The successful execution of this night operation underscores the NAF’s growing dominance in both day and night air power capabilities, proving that insurgents can no longer operate under the cover of darkness,” he further stated.

According to the statement, through relentless precision strikes and sustained air operations, the NAF remained committed to utilising its formidable air power to neutralise terrorist networks and restore lasting peace to the region.
