Gen Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, has reconfirmed the Nigerian Armed Forces’ willingness to engage in United Nations (UN) peacekeeping operations.
Musa made the commitment in Abuja while receiving Mohammed Fall, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria.
Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, said the CDS stressed the importance of collaboration in international security operations.
He urged the United Nations to “partner with state governments to ensure the return of displaced persons as well as refugees to their respective communities.”
Musa also highlighted civil-military interactions, saying that they were “more impactful than kinetic means of operations.”
Responding, Fall praised Nigeria’s role in UN peacekeeping operations, referring to the military as “one of the greatest contributors” to peacekeeping missions.
He also encouraged further assistance for Nigeria’s role in regional security, as he outlined why the nation’s leadership on the continent remains central to the UN.
