The Nigerian Army has deployed 170 Forest Guards to Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State in a move aimed at boosting security in vulnerable communities.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities across the North-West region.
The deployment was officially carried out on Tuesday at the Army Headquarters in Kangiwa, located in Arewa LGA.
The Forest Guards will operate under the supervision of the Nigerian Army and have been equipped with motorcycles, sleeping kits, and basic food supplies to enhance mobility and operational effectiveness in forested and remote locations.
Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the initiative is designed to strengthen rapid-response capabilities and sustain operations in areas frequently exploited by criminal groups.
The deployment also reflects growing cooperation between the Nigerian Army and the Kebbi State Government in efforts to restore peace and security in the state.
Residents of the affected communities are expected to benefit from increased patrol activities and improved protection against attacks.
