The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State is sounding the alarm over the recent arrest of one of its members, Aiha K. Nass, by security agencies, sparking a fresh debate over political freedom in the region.
Gathered at the party’s headquarters, the NNPP State Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, slammed the move as unacceptable, issuing a firm warning to security forces to maintain their neutrality in a democratic system.
In a formal statement, the party emphasized that for a democracy to thrive, security agencies must rise above partisan interests and avoid any actions that suggest a biased agenda.
Karaye stood firm in his demand for Aiha’s immediate release, reminding the authorities that the fundamental rights to freedom of speech and the right to associate are the pillars of the Nigerian constitution.
The Publicity Secretary also turned his attention to the Kano State Government, urging leadership to uphold the very democratic principles that serve as the foundation of their own governing authority.
Despite the mounting tension, the party made a point to appeal to its vast network of members and supporters to remain calm and respect the law while they navigate the legal hurdles of the case.
“Finally, the party calls on all to remain calm, law-abiding, and adhere to the rules of the game,” the statement added.
