US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced that companies that manufacture their products in the United States will not have to pay any tariffs.
The 78-year-old Republican made the announcement in the White House Rose Garden as he unveiled his highly anticipated new set of tariffs on imports as part of his “America First” agenda.
“There’s no tariff if you build your product right here in America,” Trump announced.
He went on, “End your own tariffs, drop your barriers, stop manipulating your currencies, and start buying tens of billions of dollars’ worth of American products.”
Trump has already imposed a 10 per cent tariff on all imports to the United States.
He has also imposed 25 per cent tariffs on all foreign-made cars, as well as a 25 per cent tariff on imports of steel and aluminium.
Trump announced last week that the US tariffs will be slapped on from April 3.
