The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council, has raised concerns over the rising wave of insecurity in the state and called for urgent action to address the situation.
The union stated that at its monthly congress held at its Alagbaka secretariat in Akure, members described the persistent security breach, esespecially kidnappings as alarming and requiring immediate intervention.
In a communique signed by Damilola Isaiah, Adebiyi Jimisayo, and Joy Pius, issued after the meeting, the union urged relevant authorities to intensify efforts to tackle the challenge, noting that residents have been living in constant fear.
The NUJ also expressed concern over the surge in kidnappings in Akure North Local Government Area and along the Uso-Owo axis, stressing that perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.
Part of the communique stated: “The congress expressed concern over the worrisome security situations in some parts of the state, particularly the increasing cases of commercialised kidnappings.”
