Ondo Police Nab Suspect in Businessman’s Murder

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have apprehended a key suspect in connection with the murder of a prominent businessman in Ondo State.

The suspect, identified as Ijalo, is alleged to have shot and killed businessman Sumaila Awoyinka at his home in Ore, located in the Odigbo Local Government Area, on March 1, 2025.

Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest, stating that it resulted from diligent investigative work. He revealed that a search of the suspect’s residence yielded a locally-made pistol, various charms, and other incriminating items.

“Following a discreet and thorough investigation, officers of the Command apprehended the prime suspect, one Ijalo ‘m’, on 10/04/2024, an alleged resident of Osogbo,” Ayanlade stated.

“The arrest was made after a painstaking manhunt led operatives back to Ore, where a locally made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with criminal charms, was recovered during a search of the suspect’s premises.”

Commending the police officers’ dedication, Commissioner of Police Wilfred Afolabi reassured residents of his unwavering commitment to public safety.

Afolabi emphasized that the command would intensify intelligence-driven policing efforts to rid Ondo State of criminal elements completely.
