One Killed, Two Injured as Armed Bandits Attack Sokoto Community

Armed bandits invaded Baidi community in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday, resulting in the death of one person and injury to two.

Eye witnesses clarified that the assailants came to the village in the daytime, firing at villagers while they escaped.

The victims were rushed to Tangaza General Hospital, where one died.

Local sources clarified that this was the third incidence within one week, and the attackers arrived on motorcycle in threes.

They are not reported to be members of the Lakurawa bandits, who were previously driven out of the area by security agents.

“This is the third time they have attacked since the Lakurawa bandits were driven away,” complained a resident. “Just last week, bandits attacked Layinna village and killed one person, injured several others, and made away with livestock.

“They also attacked Aliya village, preventing residents from accessing the only well in the village for water,” the source continued.

Efforts to reach Tangaza Local Government Chairman, Isah Salihu Kalenjini, were unsuccessful, but reports say he also visited the hospital to view the victims who were hurt.

The spokesman of the Sokoto State Police Command, Ahmed Rufai, explained that the attack was orchestrated by the head of the community and that led to an instant response by the police and other local security officers.

“The community leader had reported the attack to the Nigerian Police, and we immediately moved to the scene with the assistance of the state community guard corps.

“Unfortunately, three of them were already shot before we arrived. We rushed them to the hospital, but one of them didn’t survive,” he said.
