Osun Internal Revenue Service Busts Tax Fraud

Two persons have been apprehended by the Osun State Internal Revenue Service for alleged forgery of government tax receipts and clearances.

Ademola Adewumi, Chairman of the agency, in a statement issued on Sunday in Osogbo, made this known.

The state government office called on taxpayers in the state to be cautious and pay taxes through the right channels.

Adewumi said the culprits were arrested in a statewide audit and enforcement exercise.

The Osun Internal Revenue Service has detained two persons for cloning and issuing to unsuspecting members of the general public fake Government of Osun Tax receipts and Tax Clearance Certificates in a bid to put an end to revenue leakages in the state.

“The exercise is continuous as the commitment of this exercise is to ensure adequate compliance to the rules governing the payment of taxes and levies, as well as blocking of all avenues of revenue leakages in the state.”

Adewumi also said that the agency does not condone fraudulent tax payment and warned against fraudulent activities relating to the faking of government tax receipts and clearances.

“Anyone found indulging in the act would face the full force of the law.

“I also appeal to responsible tax payers to still be wary. They should not rush, but instead proceed through approved channels such as all banks, tax stations, MDAs, the OIRS online platform and OIRS POS marshals, and obtain government receipts for whatever payment they make.

“The aim of the ongoing exercise is to bring all those who are enemies of the state sabotaging the efforts of the government in terms of revenue to book.”

He said they had been handed over to the state police command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
