The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has made it clear that it is not part of any coalition involving opposition figures.
Led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the Forum stated that it has no intention of joining any political alliance in the lead-up to the 2027 presidential election.
This position was made public following a meeting held on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
In addition, the Forum deepened the internal leadership tussle within the party by declaring support for Deputy National Secretary Setonji Koshoedo as the Acting National Secretary.
It’s worth recalling that former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar recently unveiled a new opposition coalition.
The alliance reportedly involves key political figures such as former Labour Party flagbearer Peter Obi and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, among others.
Atiku explained that the purpose of the coalition is “aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu in 2027.”
The announcement followed El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai criticized the APC for “lack of internal democracy since Tinubu assumed power.”
Meanwhile, former SDP presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo revealed that Atiku and Obi are in discussions to possibly align with the SDP.
He expressed confidence that “if Atiku, Obi and other prominent politicians willing to join SDP can stick to the party’s culture, they would defeat and retire Tinubu and the APC.”
In a related development, Buba Galadima, a senior figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), claimed that El-Rufai is “Atiku’s placeholder in the SDP should the PDP deny him its presidential ticket.”
