On Monday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum expressed its support for the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.
Led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, the Forum made this declaration after a meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara for six months and declared a state of emergency in Rivers State to address the ongoing political crisis.
As part of the state of emergency, Tinubu also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as the Sole Administrator for Rivers.
In a communiqué issued following their meeting in Ibadan, the PDP governors reaffirmed their commitment, stating: “We restate our commitment to stand with him (Fubara) until the end amid the challenges posed by the declaration of a state of emergency in his state.”
On the rising security concerns across the country, particularly in Borno, Katsina, and Edo states, the PDP governors raised their alarm, stating, “The Forum finds alarming the worsening security situation in the country.”
The governors called for a “review and reorientation of priorities and strategies,” stressing the importance of a bottom-up approach to effectively address security challenges.
