Delta State Police Command officers apprehended a 23-year-old man for fatally stabbing his elderly mother in Obiaruku, Delta State.
The mother, who was in her fifties, had warned the suspect, just named as Samson, when she observed him smoking early in the morning.
Her complaint that it was too early for him to be smoking infuriated Samson, who stabbed her with a knife.
Samson’s elder brother, a sickle cell patient, was alleged to have shouted, attracting people into the compound, where they discovered the deceased’s body in a pool of blood.
Samson was seen holding the knife he reportedly used to kill his mother in a video posted on X by a person known as Ose.
Close relatives revealed that the family lives on Jehovah Street in Obiedike, Obiaruku, and that Samson was initially sent to Asaba, Delta State’s capital, to learn a trade after completing secondary school.
However, he returned a few months later after becoming involved with a group of young acquaintances who introduced him to drugs that harmed his mental health.
He was then brought back to Obiaruku, where his mother took him to a traditional mental health hospital for treatment.
SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command Public Relations Officer, confirmed the crime and Samson’s detention by police.
