Authorities within the Nigeria Police Force have clarified that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, never gave instructions for the total shutdown of every tactical team across the various state commands.
An official release from Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, characterized the recent media coverage as a complete distortion of what the IGP actually intended.
The police spokesperson pointed out that it is factually incorrect to claim the IGP ordered the instant breakup of several tactical squads on a national scale.
“The attention of the Inspector-General of Police has been drawn to the story recently circulated by some online media outlets.
“The publication stated that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, directed the immediate dissolution of multiple tactical units operating across state commands nationwide.
“This report is a misrepresentation of the IGP’s directives,” the statement said.
In his briefing, the police rep noted that while the IGP understands the public’s anxiety regarding how these tactical groups operate, he also recognizes the essential part they play in keeping the streets safe from crime.
