The Rivers State Police Command has announced that a fire has ravaged the Shell Petroleum Development Company’s Trans-Niger Delta pipeline.
However, the command assured citizens that everything was fine.
This was confirmed by Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer, in a Tuesday statement.
Iringe-Koko stated the fire was discovered on Monday night while conducting a patrol check, and the police officers at once reported to SPDC, which shut down pipelines involved and activated safety measures.
“There is no further threat to residents or the environment,” she stated.
She refused to say whether the fire was the result of an explosion, spill, or attacks by militants.
However, she stated two persons had been arrested for interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation into what caused the incident.
“The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. In connection with this, two individuals have been taken in for questioning as part of efforts to uncover any potential act of sabotage,” she said.
She assured residents of the police’s commitment to ensuring safety and bringing those responsible for any wrongdoing to justice.
