The Delta State Police Command has rescued five abducted worshippers following the raid of the kidnappers’ hideout in Ubuluku Forest.
In the operation, the police also recovered N1.3 million, which they suspect to be ransom.
The church pastor was injured by a bullet and is being treated in the hospital, while the victims, who are members of Elyon Paradise Ministry, Ogwashi-Uku, were abducted during a night vigil at their church.
The Police Commissioner, Olufemi Abaniwonda, was quick to react and sent tactical units, including the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, to conduct safe rescue.
Police officers, the vigilantes in Ubuluku community, and sympathetic citizens stormed the abode of the kidnappers in which the suspects had engaged the police in a shootout before fleeing on their heels, abandoning the five victims in the process.
The hostages were rescued unharmed and reunified with their families.
SP Bright Edafe, Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police Command, stated that security personnel recovered 13 expended cartridges alongside the money.
He also confirmed that there is a manhunt for the escaping suspects.
In his words, Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda praised the bravery of police men and cooperation of Ubuluku community members, including human rights activists who supported the operation.
