Presidency Reveals Why IGP Egbetokun Resigned Suddenly

The Presidency has stepped forward to clarify the circumstances behind the sudden resignation of the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.

Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, explained that Egbetokun decided to step down to focus on personal matters that require his presence.

According to Onanuga, the outgoing police chief made it clear in his letter to the President that pressing family concerns have made it necessary for him to step away from his official duties.

He said: “The IGP resigned in a letter today, citing family issues which required his undivided attention.”

The news of Egbetokun’s departure from the top police post spread rapidly across media platforms on Tuesday, sparking widespread conversation.

His decision to leave office reportedly came on the heels of a private meeting at the Presidential Villa, where it was suggested that the President had formally requested his resignation.
