Rivers Administrator, Ibas Swears in New SSG

The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has officially sworn in Prof. Ibibia Lucky-Worika as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), marking a pivotal moment in efforts to strengthen governance and restore public confidence in the state.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony, Vice Admiral Ibas emphasized that Prof. Worika’s appointment is a strategic decision aimed at reinforcing the administration’s dedication to law, order, and effective leadership.

“To our new SSG, the task ahead is onerous, but your track record leaves no doubt in our minds that you will prove your mettle. Rivers State needs your intellect, grit, and unwavering dedication. Together, we will write a new chapter of progress for this great state,” he said.

He noted that Prof. Worika’s rich background in law, public policy, and international governance makes him uniquely positioned to support the administration’s goals of stabilizing the political landscape and laying a solid foundation for democratic governance.

The Administrator further charged the new SSG to hit the ground running, highlighting the urgency of collaboration and teamwork in delivering results.

“You have no time to settle down. You must roll up your sleeves and get to work with the team. Our civil servants are critical stakeholders, and we must work with them to ensure that the state continues to function effectively during this administration.”

Addressing state officials, Ibas called for unity and cooperation from the civil service in navigating this transitional period:

“To the Permanent Secretaries and civil servants as a whole, once more, I ask for your kind cooperation and support as we work to achieve our objectives at this time,” he added.

The appointment of Prof. Worika is expected to bring renewed energy and focus to the state’s administrative machinery, as Rivers State charts a course toward stability, transparency, and people-centered governance.
