A Russian drone attack has struck storage facilities and an administrative building in Ukraine’s central Poltava region, causing widespread damage and fires, local officials confirmed on Friday.
According to Regional Governor Volodymyr Kohut, the targeted facilities belong to Ukraine’s state gas producer and housed spare parts used to repair wells and processing plants.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that a total of 163 drones were launched overnight by Russia. Of those, 89 were successfully intercepted, while 51 failed to reach their intended targets, likely due to electronic warfare countermeasures.
Ukraine’s General Staff condemned the attack, stating:
“The Russian aggressor cynically continues to lie about its aspirations for peace, deliberately attacking civilian objects and endangering civilians.”
Military officials said the drone strike specifically targeted civilian infrastructure and the administrative buildings of oil and gas companies operating in Poltava.
Local emergency services revealed that the attack ignited fires spanning more than 2,500 square meters, severely damaging the site’s transformer and disrupting power.
Governor Kohut also noted that the assault temporarily knocked out power lines, leaving some districts in Poltava without electricity for a short period.
In a separate incident, Ukraine’s State Emergency Services reported that drones also struck the southern Odesa region, where one person was injured and fires broke out in private residences.
This latest wave of drone strikes highlights the continued intensity of Russia’s military campaign targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, further complicating recovery efforts and placing civilians at increased risk.
