A tragic auto accident has allegedly occurred on the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Niger State’s Katcha Local Government Area, claiming seven lives.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, May 18, 2025, when a truck transporting federal government grains and 36 male passengers traveling from Lagos to Kano crashed at Essa Community.
Confirming the crash, the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, stated that in addition to the fatalities, 16 people were injured. Of the injured, 11 sustained serious injuries while five suffered minor harm.
He said the injured victims were rushed to health centers in Badeggi and Agaie for treatment, while some were taken away by relatives.
“NSEMA personnel, along with villagers and commuters, conducted search and rescue operations,” Arah noted.
He attributed the cause of the accident to the poor condition of the road, particularly the sections yet to be reconstructed on the Lambata-Bida axis.
