Pedro Sanchez has clearly stated Spain’s position following recent threats by Donald Trump after Madrid refused to grant the United States access to its military bases for a possible strike on Iran.
Trump had announced on Tuesday that the United States of America would cut all relations with Spain, a fellow member of NATO, over its decision to deny the use of two military bases located in southern Spain for operations against Iran.
The US president made the remarks during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
However, in a nationwide broadcast shortly afterward, Sanchez firmly outlined the Spanish government’s stance, saying, “Our stance can be summed up in four words: ‘No to the war.’”
He further stated, “We are not going to be complicit in something bad for the world nor contrary to our values and interests simply to avoid reprisals from someone.”
