A suspected vandal was found dead inside a transformer substation at Commissioners’ Quarters 1, Damaturu, Yobe State.
The suspect’s body was evacuated by the Damaturu police patrol team “Operation Haba Maza” and sent to the mortuary at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital in Damaturu, where his relatives recognized and claimed the corpse.
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC, Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, who confirmed this in a statement issued on Saturday, stated that after receiving the information, the Company’s Regional Manager and Operation and Maintenance Officer visited the spot.
According to Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, police investigations revealed that the suspect attempted to steal electrical assets about 1:00 a.m. during a power outage but was electrocuted when the electricity was unexpectedly restored.
She also stated that his lifeless body was discovered in the early hours of the morning by neighbors on their way to the mosque for morning prayers.
According to her, the event was immediately reported to the Maisandari ‘B’ Division of the Yobe State Police Command, which dispatched troops to evacuate the body.
According to the YEDC’s Communications Officer, the PPRO stated, “We will continue to support the YEDC in protecting their installations and prosecuting arrested vandals who damage power infrastructure and disrupt services”.
