The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel S. Bretet, has urged community leaders in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area to counsel their members to stay within secured environments and to cooperate closely with security agencies by providing timely and relevant information for swift response.
The call came shortly after Bretet conducted an on-the-spot security assessment in Karim-Lamido, where scores of persons were reportedly killed in violent attacks by herders. Speaking through the command’s spokesperson, James Leshen, the commissioner condemned the attacks and appealed for calm, stressing the need for peace and unity to de-escalate tensions.
Bretet revealed that he had immediately reviewed and strengthened the security architecture of the area by deploying additional personnel to restore public confidence. He emphasized that his visit’s primary goal was to ensure peace is reestablished and underscored the importance of respecting the rule of law.
He warned that any individual or group inciting disturbances would face decisive legal action.
Reaffirming the commitment of the Taraba State Police Command to protect lives and property, Bretet assured residents that adequate security measures are now in place to restore normalcy.
The Chairman of Karim-Lamido Council, Bitrus Danjos, praised the Commissioner’s swift intervention and pledged full support, including intelligence sharing, to aid peacekeeping efforts.
The council area mourned over 37 victims allegedly killed by herders, who were laid to rest in a mass burial last Saturday.
