The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has explained that the power shortages in some areas of Lagos State resulted from the breaking of transmission lines between Towers 420 and 422 along the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330-kilovolt transmission line on Saturday, March 9, 2025.
The spokesperson of the company, Ndidi Mbah, corroborated this in a statement made on Monday.
The breakdown, in the words of TCN, has reduced the bulk supply of electricity to the Lagos area by about 350 megawatts, both for Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies.
TCN insisted that its engineers have been deployed to rectify the fault and that the exercise would take three days after which power supply to the areas concerned would resume as usual.
“The line cut has resulted in a reduction of approximately 350 MW of bulk electricity supply to the Lagos area, affecting both Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies. This temporary drop in bulk power supply has caused significant load shedding within the Eko and Ikeja franchise areas.
“TCN has mobilized its engineers to the site and conveyed the necessary materials to repair the snapped sections of the 330kV Omotoso-Ikeja West transmission line. Repair work is expected to be completed within three days, after which the full bulk power supply will be restored through the transmission line route.
“TCN apologizes for any inconvenience caused to the government, Eko and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Companies, and electricity consumers in Lagos State,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, outside Lagos State, electricity consumers have lamented the drop in electricity supply in most parts of the country.
