The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed that Sokoto and Kebbi States are currently receiving between six and seven megawatts (MW) of bulk electricity from the Mando Transmission Substation through the 132 kilovolt (kV) Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi transmission line.
This update was provided by TCN spokesperson, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, in a statement issued on Saturday.
The reduced power supply comes in the wake of the collapse of three towers along the 330 kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, caused by heavy winds.
TCN has since mobilised three separate contractors to the site, each responsible for reconstructing one of the collapsed towers. According to Mrs. Mbah, this strategic deployment aims to expedite restoration efforts and minimise downtime on the transmission line.
To mitigate the impact of the blackout on affected areas, Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently being supplied with between 6 MW and 7 MW of electricity from the Mando Transmission Substation, serving as a backup during the restoration period.
Additionally, efforts have been made to cushion the disruption’s effect on Kaduna DisCo and its customers.
TCN expressed appreciation for the patience of affected communities as work continues to restore full power supply.
