In a significant victory for local security, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Operation FANSAN YANMA have successfully taken down several members of the Lakurawa terrorist group following a botched raid on the Dadinkowa community in Kebbi State.
The details of the confrontation were brought to light by Zagazola Makama, a prominent counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, through a series of updates on X.
According to Makama, the armed terrorists had attempted to swarm a local market during the early hours of Sunday, even going as far as blocking off a main access road to trap the community and carry out their operation undisturbed.
However, the plan fell apart when security forces, alerted by urgent distress calls from the residents, arrived on the scene with speed and precision, engaging the attackers in a high-stakes gun battle.
The fierce exchange of fire forced the terrorists into a desperate retreat. While several of the attackers were neutralized on the spot, many others were seen fleeing the area with what appeared to be serious gunshot wounds.
The swift intervention was a major win for the village. “The attempted market raid was successfully foiled, preventing potential civilian casualties and destruction of property.
“Troops have since intensified patrols and clearance operations around Dadinkowa and adjoining areas to track fleeing elements and stabilise the security environment,” Makama stated.
