Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force and the Hunters Group, have successfully repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters in Damasak, located in Nganzai Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed by a counter-insurgency and security analyst focused on the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, in a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday.
According to the source, the attackers stormed the town around 10:30 p.m., firing sporadically and causing residents to flee in panic.
“Three civilians, Goni Dauda, 25, of Zanna Umarti Ward; Modu Ya’asham, 32, of Gajiram Town; and Asinamai David, 25, of Bula Kara, Gubio Town, were fatally hit by stray bullets, while Kellu Bukar, 40, an IDP camp resident, sustained a chest wound and is currently receiving treatment at General Hospital Damasak,” Makama said.
He added that troops quickly responded to the incident and engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing the attackers to retreat with suspected bullet wounds. The troops later secured the area and evacuated the victims from the scene.
According to the report, the bodies of Goni Dauda and Modu Ya’asham were handed over to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites, while Asinamai David was buried following Christian rites.
