Trump Celebrates Wisconsin Voter ID Approval

U.S. President Donald Trump has praised Wisconsin voters after they approved a voter ID law in Tuesday’s election, which will now elevate the requirement to the state constitution.

The amendment was passed through a referendum, with the majority of Wisconsin residents voting in favor of solidifying the state’s photo ID requirement for voting, moving it from state law into the constitution for added permanence.

Reacting to the outcome, Trump took to his Truth Social account on Tuesday night, accusing Democrats of opposing the measure for questionable reasons:

“Voter I.D. just approved in Wisconsin Election,” Trump wrote.

“Democrats fought hard against this, presumably so they can cheat. This is a big win for Republicans, maybe the biggest win of the night.

It should allow us to win Wisconsin, like I just did in the Presidential Election, for many years to come!”

The voter ID law has long been a contentious issue in the state. Republicans argue it’s essential for election integrity, while Democrats have criticized it as voter suppression, particularly affecting marginalized communities.

With Tuesday’s approval, Wisconsin’s photo ID law becomes constitutionally protected, making it significantly harder to repeal or alter in the future. The move is being seen as a major win for the GOP as the 2024 election season ramps up.
