UK PM Starmer Agrees with Trump on Europe’s Defence Responsibility

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said United States President Donald Trump is correct that European countries must bear a greater burden for their common defence.

Starmer said this in an interview with the New York Times on Sunday.

“We need to think about defence and security in a more immediate way,” he said.

The British prime minister is working to deploy a multinational combat force that he is calling a coalition of the willing to defend Ukraine’s skies, ports and borders in the aftermath of any peace agreement.

Talking about Trump, the UK PM said, “On a person-to-person basis, I think we have a good relationship.”

He added, however, that the US leader’s actions, ranging from the imposition of a 25% tariff on British steel to bullying President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, had caused quite a level of confusion.
