Vice President Kashim Shettima Visits Gwoza Suicide Bombing Victims

In a somber visit on Saturday, Vice President Kashim Shettima offered condolences to the victims and families affected by the devastating suicide bombings in Gwoza, Borno State.

The tragic event, which occurred during a wedding ceremony, involved a female suicide bomber who detonated explosives, resulting in over 30 fatalities and numerous injuries.

During his visit to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, Vice President Shettima expressed profound sorrow over the incident. Conveying the heartfelt condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Shettima reassured the victims and the Borno State government of the administration’s unwavering support.

“The heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is with the victims,” Shettima stated. “He specifically instructed us to come and offer our condolences and commiserations to those affected by this tragedy.”

Accompanied by key officials including the Director General of NEMA, the Minister of Agriculture, the Minister of Transportation, and the Chief Whip of the Senate, Shettima emphasized the collaborative efforts to provide relief and assistance. The Acting Governor and local leaders have been tirelessly working to support the victims since the attack.

In a gesture of personal compassion, Shettima made a donation to all the victims and expressed his deep sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives. He described the scene as “pathetic,” highlighting the emotional and physical toll on the community.

“So far, we have recorded 32 deaths,” Shettima reported. “42 injured individuals were brought in from Gwoza, with about 14 already discharged and 26 still receiving medical attention.”

The Vice President’s visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to aiding those affected by the tragic event and ensuring their needs are met during this difficult time.
