The US and Israeli airstrikes reportedly killed at least 100 schoolgirls at Shajareh Tayyebeh girls’ school in Minab, located in southern Iran, according to Mizan News Agency.
The state-run outlet added that many more students remain unaccounted for.
A video circulating online appears to show smoke rising from burned walls immediately after the strike, with debris strewn across the road. Hundreds of people gathered at the scene, visibly distraught, while screams could be heard in the background.
Factnameh compared the footage with other images of the school area and verified its authenticity. Reuters also confirmed that the video came from the school.
Hossein Kermanpour, a spokesperson for Iran’s Health Ministry, posted on X that the bombing of the school was “the most painful news” from the ongoing conflict. “God knows how many more children’s bodies they will dig out from under the rubble,” he added.
The school is reportedly located adjacent to a Revolutionary Guards barracks.
If confirmed, this would be the deadliest single incident resulting from the US-led strikes so far.
Across the country, Iranians expressed a mix of fear and cautious hope as the attacks continued. Some welcomed the strikes as long-anticipated, while critics of the government hoped they might spark political change.
However, both sentiments were tempered by worry, as civilians feared further casualties in a nation already reeling from recent violence.
In Tehran, some residents stayed indoors, while others navigated heavy traffic to reach their children after schools closed. Many reported preparing for weeks in anticipation of possible conflict, stockpiling water and other essentials.
