President Bola Tinubu has opened up about his decision to appoint Olatunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police, pointing directly to a long-standing track record of excellence.
Speaking on Wednesday during the formal ceremony to confer Disu with his new rank, the President shared that his choice was rooted in years of observation.
“I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility,” the President said, addressing the new police chief directly. “I know your record. I saw the dedication you exhibited while you were in Lagos when I was governor.”
Beyond the appointment, the President laid out a clear vision for the future of the Force.
He urged Disu to work on restoring the public’s trust, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police must prove they can protect the nation through close collaboration with other security agencies.
Tinubu’s charge to the new IGP was clear: lead “firmly but fairly.” He called on Disu to “demand professionalism at every level and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority.”
While the President didn’t shy away from calling the new role a “daunting challenge,” he made it clear he believes he has the right man for the job.
“You can do it,” Tinubu insisted, offering a final vote of confidence. “You have my word, you have my full support.”
