Wike vs Fubara: Northern Youth Council Condemns State of Emergency in Rivers

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria vehemently condemned the latest “unlawful removal” of Rivers State’s democratically elected governor, which was reportedly masterminded by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to the youths, “This brazen act undermines the democratic principles that our nation cherishes and jeopardizes the rule of law.”

Isah Abubakar, National President of the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria, said in a statement on Thursday, “We view this action as a direct assault on the will of the people, as expressed through their votes. Such actions threaten the very foundation of our democratic system and raise concerns about the integrity of governance in Nigeria.”

The Council urged all stakeholders, such as the court and civil society, to prioritize democratic principles and see that the voice of the people is heard.

The young people also called for President Tinubu’s government to place national cohesion and stability higher than political agenda and establish a government of accountability, respect, and law.

The council reiterated that the Nigerian democracy for which Nigerians struggle should not be undermined by politically motivated actions in contravention of the will of the people and the constitution.

Abubakar added, “We stand with the people of Rivers State and call for the immediate restoration of their elected leadership. The Northern Youth Council reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding democracy and promoting good governance across Nigeria.”
