Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni asserted that retirement from the public service marks the beginning of a new phase in life and not the end, as it is misconstrued by many.
According to Buni, he stated this while receiving the newly deployed Head of Civil Service, Tonga Betara Bularafa, on a thank-you call at Government House on Thursday.
He believes retirement should be seen as a moment of growth, exploration, and continuous contribution, rather than an endpoint.
Buni tasked the youthful civil servants who accompanied the new Head of Service on the visit to learn from his exemplary qualities of discipline, commitment, and service with the aim of advancing their career.
The governor directed the Head of Service to organize training programs for those civil servants on the verge of retirement so they could learn new skills and try new career opportunities once they retire from the public service.
The program, according to him, is designed to ease the process of transition into retirement while presenting chances for self-improvement and financial empowerment.
“By acquiring these new skills, civil servants will be better prepared to navigate the challenges and opportunities of retirement and pursue fulfilling careers beyond public service,” Buni said.
