Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has reacted to forward Vinicius’ penalty miss against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg on Wednesday.
Ancelotti also clarified why he substituted Vinicius during extra time.
Vinicius missed a penalty he was awarded for teammate Kylian Mbappe in the second half at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.
Ancelotti’s side eventually defeated Atletico 4-2 on penalties after the match ended 2-2 on aggregate.
Ancelotti, in his post-match press conference, had this to say: “It was already decided Vini Jr. would take it and unfortunately he missed.
“He wasn’t going to take one in the shootout but he asked me to come off because he was very tired.”
Real Madrid will next face Arsenal at the quarter-final stage in April.
The Los Blancos will face Villarreal in their next game in the LaLiga on Saturday.
