Carrick Reacts as Man United Lose 2–1 to Newcastle

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has admitted his side fell below expectations in their 2–1 loss to Newcastle United on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils were beaten at St James’ Park, even though the home side were reduced to 10 men following the dismissal of Jacob Ramsey.

William Osula curled in the decisive goal late in the second half, after Casemiro had earlier equalised with a header to cancel out Anthony Gordon’s penalty.

“I don’t think it was the 10 men, we just didn’t play good enough,” Carrick told TNT Sports.

“We can’t make excuses for that. We all take responsibility for that.

“Newcastle deserved to win tonight, it hurts me to say that.

“That is how it was. We need to get back to work and be better for the next game.”
