Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim didn’t hold back after his team’s disappointing 4–1 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday, admitting they fell short in key moments.
The Red Devils’ struggles continued as they suffered their 14th league defeat this season at St James’ Park.
Sandro Tonali put Newcastle ahead early, but Alejandro Garnacho briefly brought United level.
Harvey Barnes’ double and Bruno Guimarães’ strike, however, sealed a dominant victory for the Magpies.
A frustrated Amorim didn’t sugarcoat his team’s performance after the match, telling reporters: “Many mistakes. Newcastle were stronger in second balls. We did a lot of mistakes that made it harder to win a game. That’s all.”
He added: “It’s a little bit of everything. It’s hard to point to one thing. It’s really hard to win against these top teams like Newcastle. When we make mistakes to help the opponent it’s even harder. Let’s focus on Thursday.”
Despite the heavy defeat, Amorim insisted his squad has the quality to bounce back, saying: “I think you can see that we can do so much better. That’s it. Let’s focus on Thursday. All the mistakes we did today we cannot do Thursday.”
