Arsenal have been dealt a fresh injury setback as key defender Gabriel Magalhaes has been ruled out due to a hamstring issue, just days before their Premier League showdown with Everton.
The North London club confirmed the news in an official update published on their website on Thursday, revealing that the Brazilian centre-back sustained the injury during their narrow 2-1 win against Fulham earlier this week.
Gabriel was forced off during the first half of the match at Emirates Stadium and was replaced by Jakub Kiwior.
In a medical update, the club stated that “Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.”
They further added: “Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
With crucial fixtures ahead, including a UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash against Real Madrid next week, manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping for a swift recovery and timely return for his defensive stalwart.
