EPL: Onana Dropped for Man United vs Newcastle Clash

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has been left out of the squad for today’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United, following a challenging week on and off the pitch.

According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Onana was informed of the decision by manager Rúben Amorim after United’s recent UEFA Europa League match against Olympique Lyon.

The manager reportedly advised the Cameroonian shot-stopper to take a short mental break from football.

“André Onana won’t even be on the bench for Man United today as Rúben Amorim wanted him to disconnect from football after a difficult week,” Romano reported on Sunday via his official X account.

Jamie Jackson of The Guardian also confirmed Onana’s absence, noting that the goalkeeper did not travel with the squad to Newcastle.

In Onana’s absence, Turkish international Altay Bayındır is set to make his Premier League debut.

The summer signing now has a major opportunity to prove himself as he steps into the starting lineup for one of the season’s key fixtures.

Onana is expected to return to the squad for the second leg of the Europa League quarterfinal later this week.
